When Auburn builder Gary McFarland was getting ready to build his contemporary colonial home on Hickory  Drive, he picked the site where he could have the best view of the Auburn landscape from his bathroom window. The house features 6,500 square feet of living space, including four bedrooms, four baths, an attached two-car garage and detached two-car garage with a car port. The 9½-foot ceiling in the kitchen allows for extra-tall kitchen cabinets. The interior of the house is trimmed with solid oak throughout. McFarland and his girlfriend, Teri Poulin, have placed the home on the market. “With all the kids gone this is more house than we now need” McFarland said. “We are now planning our new downsized dream home, where we can have everything on the same level; perhaps the same thing we have now, but smaller.”
