LINNEUS — Myrtle B. Gay, 92, of Linneus, went to live with the Lord on March 5.

She was born Myrtle Beatrice Nathalie Wrye in Brooklyn, N.Y., March 9, 1919. Myrtle attended Malden High School in Malden, Mass., and then moved to South Berwick, where she graduated from Berwick Academy. It was while living in South Berwick that she met Donald M. Gay, her husband of 71 years and they were married in Casco on Dec. 16, 1939.

Friends in the Auburn area may remember Myrtle’s beautiful singing voice that enriched the choir of the Court Street Baptist Church, where she and Don were members from the mid 1940s through 1959, while Don was the music director at Edward Little High School. During this time, she not only shared her faith as a frequent soloist, but also served as a deaconess, Sunday school teacher and youth group adviser.

Myrtle leaves her husband, Donald, 97, of Linneus; their three children, David H. Gay of Queechie, Vt., S. Martha Runnerstrom of Linneus and Donald E. Gay of Plano, Texas; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Her family especially wishes to thank the staff of Madigan Estates Nursing Facility and the Progressive Care Unit at Houlton Regional Hospital for the loving care that was given to Myrtle during her time with them.
