FARMINGTON — Colonial Daughters Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, Farmington, presented the DAR Good Citizen Award to Ethan E. Howatt, son of Maria and Jeff Howatt of Farmington, on Feb. 16.

Presenting the award at a Mt. Blue High School assembly were Good Citizen Committee Chairwoman Deborah J. Judkins of Upton and Corresponding Secretary Nancy Flick of Farmington.

Howatt received a Good Citizen pin and certificate signed by National Society Daughters of the American Revolution President General Mary Ann T. Wright and Maine Society DAR Regent Virginia S. Spiller.

Judkins said the chapter sponsors seven area schools to recognize excellence in high school seniors. Faculty nominates candidates and the person chosen must have demonstrated the qualities defined by the National Society.

Faculty said Howatt has strong work ethics; he pays attention to detail and has an exceptional quality of character. He is a tireless worker who extends himself toward accomplishing the task at hand and is called upon to provide a guiding hand to the efforts of others.

During his four years at Mt. Blue, Howatt has been involved with basketball, football and soccer and participated in the music programs. He has received high honors or highest honors from grades seven through 12 and is a member of the National Honor Society.

Howatt is an Eagle Scout and has worked toward his Eagle Scout Badge, which he will receive in the near future. His service project to clean up the Sandy River resulted in 30 student volunteers removing 40 tires from the river. For the past five years he has volunteered at the Maine Special Olympics.

Howatt has been accepted at the University of Maine Orono, where he will study chemical engineering. At the end of his first year he will go on a mission for his church for two years., then he will return to Orono and resume his studies.
