SKOWHEGAN — Cony High School won the Maine State High School Bowling Championships Saturday, defeating Messalonskee, 3-1, at Central Maine Family Fun Lanes.

Cony entered the tournament as the No. 3 seed from the southern region and defeated Hermon 3-0 in the quarterfinals. Messalonskee defeated Skowhegan in its quarterfinal match. Lewiston and Bangor Home School Co-op were the other quarterfinal winners.

In the semifinals, Cony beat defending state champion Lewiston 3-2 in the best-of-five Baker match play, while Messalonskee won over the Bangor Home School team.

In what was a rematch from regional semifinal play where Messalonskee knocked off Cony, the Rams beat Messalonskee 3-1 to take the title. Cony players are Stephen Babb, Chase Marquis, Harry Rogers, Donovan Gilbert, and Joey Guimond. Cony is coached by Jeremy Allen.

Messalonskee was led by Captain Erin Candage, Chris Hall, Justin Rollins, Justin McKenna, James Owens, and Jacob Collins. Messalonskee is coached by Stephanie Carter and Mike Desimone.

In its run to the finals, Cony had 7 Baker games over 200 with games of 220, 245, 202, 215, 214, 202, and 218. Messalonskee had high games of 203, 203, and 233. Lewiston set a new state Baker game record of 267 during the tournament.

Lewiston won the southern regional with a 3-1 victory over Messalonskee. The Blue Devils entered the tournament as No. 1 seed and defeated Winslow in the semifinals after a first-round bye. Messalonskee topped Waterville 3-0 in the quarterfinals and Cony 3-1 in the semis.
