There is a bill being proposed in Augusta regarding voter identification. I question the rationale behind the entire issue.
Can anyone show proof of any real voter fraud happening in Maine? If not, why do we need laws to prevent it?
What is wrong with registering to vote on Election Day? It was the Republicans who instituted that process back in the 1970s, but now they want to change it. Why?
Is it beneficial to Mainers to have to spend more money to supply the public with voter identification cards when there is virtually no voter fraud free situation?
I wonder what has motivated the entire issue to begin with.
Historically, the Republicans want less government, yet they want this type of control. Why? Could it be that they want to prevent some people from voting?
Seems like a silly statement, but think about it — instead of making it easier for the public to vote, Republicans actually want to make it more difficult by adding hurdles and hoops for people to go through before they can vote.
How many people have forgotten to register before an election? I’ll bet they were happy that they could do so at the polling location.
I wonder how many people really want to have a card that only allows them to vote, what with the cards’ costs coming from their pockets?
Unless voter fraud can be proven as a problem, I question the motivation behind any changes.
