DEAR SUN SPOTS: Androscoggin Habitat for Humanity is now accepting applications from families or individuals living in Androscoggin County who are unable to acquire a mortgage loan for a home due to low income.

We will be building a home in Lewiston for our next family. We are looking to work with an individual or family to build their own home and to provide a no-interest-rate mortgage based on the cost of building that home.

As an equal housing opportunity member, Androscoggin Habitat for Humanity encourages all individuals to apply for housing with us and does not discriminate based on race, color, religion, sex, handicap, familial status or national origin.

If you are interested, please call Androscoggin Habitat for Humanity at 786-2598 to see if you qualify. If the basic requirements are met, an application will be mailed to you. All applications must be returned to Androscoggin Habitat for Humanity no later than March 31 in order to be considered for this next home. — Kim Veilleux, Androhabitat@roadrunner.com

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I have heard that when you open a website on the computer and a pop-up ad appears, oftentimes these ads contain viruses. Whenever I open the Sun Journal online, I get these pop-ups. Are they safe? — No Name, Vienna, via e-mail

ANSWER: You do not need to worry about getting a virus from the Sun Journal. While viruses can be transmitted through pop-up ads, as well as websites, e-mail attachments and other online methods, reputable, mainstream websites are usually safe. Also, if you have anti-virus software on your computer and update it regularly, that should protect your computer as well.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Concerning the question in the Feb. 26 column about Viewpoint Opticians, I wanted to let everyone know that it is in fact closed.

My husband and I owned the optical shop for 35 years and were forced to close it, quite unexpectedly, in August due to my husband’s health and therefore were unable to notify any of our customers. We were not able to keep any of the records.

We met so many wonderful people over the 35 years that we were in business, and I want to take this opportunity to thank all of them for their loyal support. — Susan Bouchard, Lewiston

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am looking for books on the divine will by Luisa Piccarreta. Publishing has been temporarily suspended until her beatification. I’m hoping your readers can help me. Thank you. — Lorraine Luce, Poland, 998-2837

ANSWER: Sun Spots did not find any copies of “Be Faithful and Attentive: A Handbook for Living in the Divine Will” (2005) by Robert Hart, which is promoted as an introduction to Luisa and her spiritual doctrine. Amazon.com said there was no information on when or if the book would be available again.

You can read some of “Handbook for Living in the Divine Will” at http://sicutincaelo.org/00bfaTofC.html. Some of the other information online was in Spanish, which didn’t do Sun Spots much good.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: In reply to the Feb. 11 column regarding making a quilt from old bathing suits, I would use iron-on Pellon. I have made two T-shirt quilts, and the Pellon worked very well. Just follow the instructions that come with it. My quilts are beautiful. Good luck! — Etta Meade, Springfield, Mass.
