LEWISTON — Police chased down a pair of men along Randall Road early Wednesday and arrested them in connection with a rash of burglaries from vehicles and a garage.

Shortly after midnight, police were sent to the area of Randall Road and McNamara Street for a report of suspicious people in the area.

Officer Charles Weaver and Sgt. Trevor Campbell arrived to find two men in a driveway at 35 Randall Road. Police said the suspects took off running when the officers approached, but they were tracked down and arrested within minutes.

Tyler Wildes, 18, of Auburn, and Wayne Anderson, 20, of Sabattus, were arrested on a variety of charges, including theft and burglary.

Police said a search of the men turned up items commonly associated with vehicle theft: compact discs, credit cards and loose change, among other things.

The officers began to investigate and came upon three vehicles and a garage that had been broken into. Additional items that had been taken from the garage were recovered, police said.

was charged with four counts of theft, three counts of vehicle burglary and a charge of violating conditions of release.

Anderson was charged with the same burglary and theft charges and a charge of carrying a concealed weapon. Police said

was carrying a 2-inch folding knife when he was arrested.

On Wednesday, the men were in the Androscoggin County Jail, each being held on $1,500 cash bail.
