LEWISTON — Stephen Babb of Cony High School and Jenna Dionne of Hampden Academy won individual high school bowling championships in the state meet March 12 at Sparetime Recreation.
The tournament was highlighted by a perfect 300 game by Dylan Davis of Waterville High School and a 289 game with 10 strikes in a row by Messalonskee’s Chris Hall.
The top 40 boys and top 30 girls competed for individual titles. Competition began with a two-game first round, with the top half in each division moving on to a two-game second round. The top four then competed in a seeded bracket for the championship.
In the boys’ division, Edward Kimball of Winslow was leading after round one with a total of 469 followed by Hall of Messalonskee with 453, Brian Bickford of Lewiston with 452 and McCauley Donna of Bucksport with 433.
Hall secured the number one seed with a 289 game in round two. Hall finished with a four- game total of 937. Davis of Waterville moved up to the second seed by throwing a perfect 300 game in the second round. This was the first-ever 300 game for Davis, the first perfect game in the Maine High School Championships and only the second in the history of Maine high school bowling. Davis’ four-game total was 896. Babb secured the No. 3 spot with a second-round total of 481 and four-game total of 890. Edward Kimball of Winslow was fourth with an 885 total.
In the final four, Kimball beat Hall 257-183 in one semifinal, while Babb eliminated Davis 223-169. In the Championship match, Babb beat Kimball 191-188 to win the title.
Dionne led throughout the tournament with a 387 after two and a four-game total of 761. The second seed was Haylie Blackmer of Hermon with 740 total. With a 682 and ranked No. 3 was eventual runner-up Brooke Leger from Lewiston. Rounding out the top four was Rachel Douglas from Bangor with 657.
In the semifinals, Dionne eliminated Douglas, 184-159, while Leger beat Blackmer 211-164. In the finals, Dionne rolled to a 202-147 victory to claim the title.
