LEWISTON — HealthSteps is an award-winning health education and prevention program for adults that focuses on the whole person – body, mind, and spirit. HealthSteps offers a wide range of classes with the core membership fee as well as a variety of specialty classes, including:
Anusara-Inspired Yoga: Open to new and experienced students. This class is an excellent way to have fun while improving your overall health, well-being, strength, flexibility and posture. Relieve muscle tension, stress, and aches and pains. Instructor: Tisha Bremner. Cost: $62.50. Wednesdays, 5-6 p.m., from April 13-May 11, Lepage Large Conference Room, 99 Campus Ave. (room change, April 27, Bank of America Room, Women’s Health). A free trial class will be held Wednesday, March 30.
Gentle Exercise: This class is designed for those with arthritis, recovering from cancer or any other individual who desires a mild form of exercise. It helps improve range of motion, strength, posture, balance and coordination. Instructor: Johanne Healey. $24. Lose With Me!: A 12-week weight loss session focused on making healthier lifestyle choices. Classes include: goal setting, exercise recommendations, nutrition education and peer support. Mommy & Me Postnatal Yoga: Open to parents with children ages six weeks to 12 months. Bond with your baby and meet other mothers. Reconnect with your yoga practice in a new way or try yoga for the first time. In this series you will learn fun yoga poses to do with your baby, perform gentle stretches to regain your mobility, start to strengthen your core after childbirth and develop a practice that includes deep relaxation. Osteoball: Exercising with the osteoball is easy to learn, non-intimidating, and uses the same simple isometric resistive techniques astronauts use to keep fit while in space. This innovative class is designed for individuals recovering from cancer, those who have bone and joint related conditions and other individuals who desire a mild yet effective form of resistance training. Pilates: Based on the teachings of Joseph Pilates, this mat class is a great alternative workout designed to increase your fitness level. Students can expect full body strengthening with particular emphasis on the core musculature. Please wear nonrestrictive attire and bring a Pilates/yoga mat. Instructor: Kerrie Poulin. $50. Thursdays, 5:30-6:30 p.m., April 14-May 12, Lepage Large Conference Room, 99 Campus Ave.
Prenatal Yoga: Prepare your mind and body for one of the most rewarding and challenging events of your life. Whether you are an experienced yogi or new to the practice, you can receive many benefits from this class. Work to open and strengthen the legs, back and pelvic floor, improve postural alignment to alleviate back pain, and practice breath and meditation exercises to help with labor. Racquetball: Specific time slots are available for registration Monday through Friday on the hour for an hour from 6 a.m. until noon. Cost: With core HealthSteps membership, $19 for the entire winter/spring session which runs from Jan. 3-May 27. Without core membership, March 21-May 27: 1 hour once a week, $68; or 1 hour twice a week, $98.
Senior Fitness: This one-hour class provides participants with a safe and effective workout that includes a warm-up, cardiovascular component, resistance training, balance and flexibility exercises. Instructor: Johanne Healey. $32. Tobacco Cessation Counseling: Single Session: This is a great option for a self-motivated person who simply needs the resources to stop smoking. $45
Tobacco Cessation Counseling: Multi-Session (3): With a smoking cessation coach, set a quit date and work through the quitting process. Many find the additional support to be a great advantage to their stopping the use of tobacco. $75
