AUBURN — Gerard R. Pineau, 74, of Lewiston, died Friday, March 18, surrounded by family, at the Hospice House, following a three year battle with cancer.
He was born on July 31, 1936, in Montreal, Canada, the son of Roland and Dolores Ladouceur Pineau. Educated in local schools, he was a graduate of St. Dominic’s High School, Class of 1954, and the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy, Class of 1958.
On July 4, 1959, he married the former Monique C. Martineau. Mrs. Pineau predeceased him on March 7, 2004, after 44 years of marriage.
When he graduated from college, he worked as a pharmacist for many years, including College Pharmacy, and Bedard’s. In the mid 1960s, he moved into broadcasting, partnering in radio stations WPNO, WTOS, and others. Under his leadership, WPNO became the No. 1 AM radio station in Lewiston-Auburn.
When he retired from broadcasting, he returned to pharmacy, working locally for Shop ‘N Save, Hannaford, and Rite Aid. He retired in 2001. A loyal Sugarloafer, Gerry could be found with family and friends in Carrabassett Valley during just about every winter weekend from 1970 on. His love for the sport of skiing has fostered a three generation Sugarloaf family.
Gerry enjoyed gardening, cooking and working on home and camp projects. He is fondly remembered in his kitchen preparing his famous baked beans, spaghetti sauce, hache and other dishes. Gerry’s perfectly prepared barbecued hamburgers were the favorite of his grandchildren.
For the past 6 years, Gerry has enjoyed spending time with his companion, Connie Taker. They traveled, visited family and friends, and spent time at Sugarloaf with “the gang.”
Survivors include a son, Robert and his wife, Susan, of Portland; a daughter, Stephanie and her husband, Jack Gallagher, of the Midcoast Region; four grandchildren, Brad and Nicole Pineau, Tegan and Aidan Gallagher; and his companion, Constance Taker of Poland.
The family would like to express their deepest appreciation and thanks to the staff of St Mary’s Health System, the staff at Schooner Estates and the staff at Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice. Their care and support helped tremendously over the past three years.
