LIVERMORE FALLS — A variety of workshops on future education and careers will be held Thursday for high and middle school students, and parents.
Keynote speaker Bob Stuart, the director of Maine College Circle, will kick off the evening at 6 p.m. March 31 on opportunities for and the value of higher education.
Stuart will speak on “How to ensure that your child goes to college for free, gets all A’s, graduates with a wonderful spouse and earns $100,000 per year salary, so you can retire with a big house and care brought for you by your child as a way to say thank you for what wonderful parents you have been, and for going to this workshop,” according the brochure.
Among the sessions are:\
* Finance Authority of Maine: Myth busters about savings, scholarships and loans;
* University of Maine campuses: Discussion on programs and opportunities;
* Verso Paper Corp.: Scholarship program; and
* Maine National Guard: Opportunities for students to continue their education or pursue a military career.
There will also be presentations by Livermore Falls High School Class of 2011 and “I want that Job” projects by Livermore Falls Middle School students.
Other sessions include history camp, sustainable ocean studies, Jobs for Maine Graduates, SAT preparation, UMF Upward Bound, advanced placement/honors courses and engineering.
Door prizes, displays and scholarships sponsored by Livermore Falls middle and high school Academic Boosters will also be presented.
University of Maine at Farmington educational counselor — Upward Bound, Elyse Pratt-Ronco, will present closing remarks featuring “Hopefully My Dreams Keep Me Going.”
