Battle of the Badges to benefit Hogan family

LEWISTON — The third-annual Battle of the Badges hockey game will be played Saturday, April 2 at Androscoggin Bank Colisee.

Police and fire departments will face off, with all proceeds going to the Hogan Family of Lisbon Falls. The family lost two children in a house fire March 4.

The game will start at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at the door. Admission is $2 per person pr $5 per family. There also will be a 50/50 drawing. T-shirts will be sold, $10 for short sleeve and $15 for long sleeve.

Polar Bear Plunge benefits OHCHS boosters

NORWAY — The Oxford Hills Athletic Boosters will be holding a Polar Bear Plunge at the the Little Red School House on Norway Lake on Saturday, April 9 at 9 a.m.

With consolidation and budget cuts looming, the Boosters need your support to help raise to support sports programs throughout the year.

Please show your support by sponsoring our brave “plungers” or by attending the event and making a monetary donation to this worthy issue.

Baked goodies and warm beverages will be available for purchase. All proceeds will benefit children’s sports programs.

Parking for the event will be available in the lower level lot. The entrance is located up the road just past the schoolhouse.

A-L Sports Hall induction set for May 1

AUBURN — The A-L Sports Hall of Fame has announced that its 28th annual Awards & Induction Banquet will be held at noon Sunday, May 1 at Lost Valley Lodge.

This year four individuals will be inducted. Their names will be announced at the HOF’s press luncheon April 15.

The event will also feature the presentation of the Chamber of Commerce President’s Award to the coaches of three state championship teams from Lewiston and Auburn since the 2010 banquet, and to a group of graduating college and high-school seniors in recognition of their outstanding athletic careers.

Continuing a popular feature of the banquets will be the “Flashback Team from the Past”. This year the HOF will commemorate the 35th anniversary of the 1976 Lewiston High School Class A state hockey championship by inviting team members to the banquet for special recognition.

Tickets are now available for $30 at the Chamber of Commerce office at 415 Lisbon Street, or call 783-2249 for reservations.

Last call for L/A Senior summer hockey players

AUBURN — The L/A Senior Hockey League is issuing its last call for player registrations before the teams are formed on April 4.

There is a new ‘A’ Competitive Division being developed for the men. Cost to play in all leagues is $255 if you played in the past winter season, or $280.00 if you did not.

Age to register is as follows: 18 years of age and older for the women’s division (all levels of play are welcome); 18 years of age and older for the men’s ‘A’ Competitive Division (teams are welcome); 25 years of age and older for the men’s ‘B’ Division (teams are drafted and caliber is monitored). Special rules apply to the ‘Father & Son’ combination.

Season starts the weekend of April 8-10.

LAYHL Midget tryouts

LEWISTON —  LAYHL Midget Hockey Tryouts for the 2011 season will be held on Sunday, April 10 at Androscoggin Bank Colisee.

The midget season will run from mid-August to mid-November. There will be a U18 Tier II team and a U16 Tier II team, and one or more Tier III teams depending on how many players tryout. 

If you are 18 years old or younger and would like to compete in this year’s LAYHL Midget Program, you are encouraged to try out.

Evaluations for U16 players (born in 1995, 1996, or 1997) begin at 8:20 a.m. Evaluations for U18 players (born in 1993 or 1994) begin at 9:45 a.m.  

All players must bring their application and proof that they are registered with USA Hockey.
