AUBURN — Auburn Suburban Babe Ruth will hold player evaluations at 9 a.m. on Sunday, April 3 in the Edward Little High School gymnasium. All players League Age 13 to 15 (as of May 1, 2011) who are not already on a Babe Ruth roster, please plan to attend the evaluation.

All players should plan to arrive at least 15 minutes early. Please bring a glove, sneakers (no cleats) and comfortable clothing.

Maine Gladiators tryout

LEWISTON — Maine Gladiators Travel Hockey Tryouts for the upcoming 2011- 12 season will be held April 7, 8 and 11 at Androscoggin Bank Colisee.

Please note these revised dates and times for the tryouts:

April 7 —  5 – 6:15 p.m., Squirts; 6:25 – 7:40 p.m., Peewees; 7:50 – 9:05 p.m.. Bantams.

April 8 —  5:10 – 6:25 p.m., Squirts; 6:35 – 7:50 p.m., Peewees; 8 – 9:15 p.m., Bantams.

April 11 —  5:00 – 6:15 p.m., Squirts; 6:25 – 7:40 p.m., Peewees; 7:50 – 9:05 p.m., Bantams.

All players are asked to be at the Colisee at least 30 minutes before their tryout time to sign in. Players must be currently registered with USA hockey.

There is a $30 non-refundable tryout fee assessed prior to trying out.

Maine Renegades seek players

GORHAM — The Maine Renegades Squirt team is looking for players for next season. The Renegades will host another evaluation day on Wednesday, April 6 from 6 to 7 p.m. at the USM ice facility. You will need to preregister at www.mainerenegades.com. The team may also consider 2003 birth year players.

The team will compete in the Merrimack Valley Hockey League and play a number of in-state games throughout the season. The program also involves many hours of skill development with the Renegades coaching staff, including Skating and Skills instructor Adam Nicholas.

In general, the Squirts will play roughly 35 Valley League games and 15 non-Valley League games. In addition, the players will have roughly 100 hours of practice time (up to four hours a week) on the Olympic size ice at USM.

Maine softball team to host youth day

ORONO — The University of Maine softball team along with the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee will host a youth activity day Saturday, April 9 for students in grades K-8.

The day begins at 10:30 a.m. with a sportsmanship seminar. Attendees then will watch Maine take on Stony Brook at noon. Youth will have an opportunity to win prizes and participate in numerous events, including throwing accuracy and base running contests.

All participants will receive a Maine sports team poster, a certificate, lunch and an opportunity to meet the team in an autograph session after the game.
