RUMFORD — Cub Scouts from all over Oxford County will be in Rumford on Saturday, April 9, as local Cub Scout Pack 580 hosts the annual district Pine Wood Derby at Mountain Valley High School.

Each pack in Abnaki District will send their top five racers from their individual events. The top five cars will race against each other for first place in the district and the honor of designing next year’s Pine Wood Derby patch.

In addition to the competitive racing, there is a “Best in Show” category. All nominees are voted on by his peers as the “Best Show Car” in the pack, and some qualify as a racer, too.

Registration of cars will begin at 8 a.m. and racing will begin at 9.

This is the first time the Rumford Scouts have hosted a district event. There will be family fun in addition to the competition. There will be food, a bake sale, face painting, craft tables and a 60-foot mobile patch collection on display. Spectators are free.
