Wilton Rec registration

WILTON — Wilton Recreation Department softball signups (girls ages 8-12) will be held April 25 and 26 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Weather permitting, signups will be at Kineowatha Park. If it storms or the fields are not ready, the event will take place in the Wilton Academy gym. Girls should plan to stay and practice at signups. Minor League Baseball (co-ed must be 7 by May 1) and T-Ball (must be 5 by May 1) signups will be held April 27 and 28 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Kineowatha Park.

Fathers’ Day 5K at Leavitt

TURNER — On June 19, Fathers’ Day, the Leavitt cross country team will hold the second-annual Leavitt Cross Country Fathers’ Day 5K.

The race is on the Leavitt cross country trails and fields and is for both runners and walkers. It is a great alternative to races on city streets, is easy to get to for those in central Maine, and benefits the local cross country team. The start will be behind the high school in Turner, right off Lower Street and near the football field and track.

Registration is through Active.com and is also listed on Facebook. The cost is only $15 until race day; only $10 for kids under ten until race day. Race singlets will be given to the first 100 to sign up. Race sponsors include Northeast Bank Insurance, Evergreen Subaru, Bangor Savings Bank, Healthy Androscoggin, and Linnell Choate & Webber, as well as Road ID. Prizes range from gift certificates to a rafting trip to other local goods. There will be a prize for the top father/child combination, as well.

Rumford Point baseball

HANOVER — Rumford Point Community Athletic Association will hold sign-ups for farm league, little league and Babe Ruth baseball at the Hanover town office Tuesday, April 12 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Dixfield baseball signups

DIXFIELD — Dixfield Recreation will be holding signups Wednesday, April 13 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Dirigo Middle School for any child wishing to play Farm League or Little League baseball.

Farm League and Little League Baseball is open to any child born May 1, 1999 through April 30, 2005 and is a resident of Dixfield or Carthage. Representatives will be on hand to explain the tryout, assessment and draft procedures and answer any questions.

If you want to play Dixfield Recreation League Farm League or Little League baseball, you must sign up. If unable to attend, please drop off your completed form off at the Dixfield Town Office. Anyone who does not come to sign-ups or otherwise make contact by April 23 will be put on a waiting list and will be put on a team only if there is space available. You must sign up even if you played last year.

The 2011 Little League tryouts will be held at 10 a.m. April 23 at Harlow Park. Any player 10 years old by April 30 must attend the tryout session.

Hoop tourney this weekend

FARMINGTON — The fifth-annual Champions for Children basketball tournament will take place Friday, April 8 through Sunday, April 10 at Dearborn Gym on the University of Maine at Farmington campus. Franklin Community Health Network (FCHN) is organizing the fundraising event with the assistance of staff from Ra-Nor Mechanical.

The beneficiary will be Franklin Health Child & Adolescent Developmental Pediatrics, which treats children with developmental disabilities such as autism spectrum disorders, Asperger’s syndrome, ADHD, and difficulties with learning and school performance. Proceeds from the tournament will provide needed care for children whose families are uninsured.

There will be six high caliber men’s teams from Maine participating. Tournament games will be held Friday evening at 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. and again on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. On Sunday, championship round games are slated to take place at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. with the final at 1 p.m.

New this year, will be a Saturday children’s game at 11 a.m. At Sunday noon, a coed game featuring a team of FCHN employees will take place.

Sponsors of the event include: Ra-Nor Mechanical, Hight Chevrolet, Kyes Insurance, Hebert Construction, Western Maine Insurance, Androscoggin Bank, and Ernest Stables. Additional sponsorship opportunities are still available.

Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for children, and those under the age of 12 are free. Concessions including sandwiches, popcorn, home baked goods, and water will be available from members of the Franklin Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.

Roller hockey league starting

HEBRON — The Western Maine Roller Hockey League plans its inaugural season starting in June. There will be a registration session on Sunday, May 1 from noon to 6 p.m. at Robinson Arena on the campus of Hebron Academy. Cost is $100 and includes a 10-game season and playoff weekend, customized jersey, personal statistics and one ticket to the end of season banquet.
