LEWISTON — April program highlights at the Center for Wisdom’s Women will include a program about women’s heart health called “The Heart Truth,” a presentation about the Passion Play and a “Yes You Can!” workshop by the CareerCenter.
Nursing student interns, Tasha Zimowski and Alisa Belskis, will offer a program called “The Heart Truth” at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 14. The program will focus on identification, prevention and treatment of heart disease in women. The two interns are at the center on Thursday mornings for Healthy You. They provide blood pressure and weight checks and are available for one-on-one conversations about meds and health related issues.
On Friday, April 15, at 10 a.m., Mary Hurlbert will share her experience of the last Passion Play in Oberammergau, Germany. The play was first performed in 1634 and is the result of a vow made by the inhabitants of the village that if God saved them from the bubonic plague sweeping the region, they would perform a play every 10 years about the last week of the life of Christ, the Passion of Christ. They have done so ever since, in years ending with a zero. Over 2,000 people, all of them villagers, participate in the production.
Mary LaFontaine from the CareerCenter, will be at the center at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 26, to present a workshop called “Yes You Can!” She will discuss job searching techniques, training opportunities and services for people with disabilities.
Ongoing offerings include “Inner Spirit” with Pam Beliveau from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, April 11, and Shanna Rogers, Neighborhood Housing League, from 9 to 10 a.m. each Tuesday to consult about landlord and tenant issues. A fibromyalgia support group meets from 10:30 to noon Monday and a new Al-Anon Mid-Week Lunch Group meets at 12:15 p.m. Wednesdays.
The QiGong (Chi Gong) class will be held at 1 p.m. Thursdays, April 7 and 19. Denise Dill from St. Mary’s Nutrition Center of Maine will teach her monthly class at 10 a.m. Monday, April 11.
Other programs include a painting class; a scrapbooking group and card making class; and small groups that focus on building self-esteem. The center welcomes all women, and programs are offered free.For a complete calendar of activities, see www.wisdomswomen.org.
The center will be closed for holidays on April 18 and 22. Due to construction, access to the center is now from 97 Blake St.
