WILTON — Following an executive session Tuesday, selectmen voted to have interim Police Chief E. Page Reynolds go before a citizen board to be interviewed for the chief’s position.

Reynolds had voiced interest in the position and willingness to move his wife and son from Connecticut to Wilton, Town Manager Rhonda Irish said Thursday.

Trying to move forward and with an intent to hire from within the department, the board agreed to put Reynolds through the interview process. Reynolds served as a lieutenant for the department for just over two years. He resigned in December but returned last month to serve as interim chief after Dennis Brown resigned.

Boards of citizens have been involved in the interview process of prospective applicants, Irish said. Reynolds went before a citizen board when he was hired as a lieutenant. Richard Billian just went before a citizen board to interview for the new sergeant’s position.

The boards can vary in size but Irish hopes to have one in place by next week. After the citizen board interview, she will make a recommendation to selectmen whether to appoint and confirm the candidate for the position.
