RUMFORD — Ring 362 of the International Brotherhood of Magicians and Aether Arts will present Carnival of Magic at 49 Franklin St. Reception Hall in Rumford at 6 p.m., Sunday, April 17. The show features magic, contact juggling, dance and feats of daring usually confined to sideshows on the carnival midway. Carnival of Magic is the first public show at 49 Franklin by I.B.M. Ring 362, a nonprofit group for the promotion of the magical arts and their artistic collaborators, Aether Arts.
Four magicians will be featured in the show. Professor Miller will perform his award-winning routine with the Chinese Rings. The Great Stephan will perform magic of the mind. Scot Grassette will present feats of invulnerability, risking injury from arrows, razor blades and other sharp objects. Dr. Wilson will attempt to escape from a straitjacket and chains and will also present the “Bride of the Blades,” in which his skill at knife-throwing will be tested against a human target.
Balancing the impossible feats of the magicians will be the superb artistry of Aether Arts, a four-person contact juggling group. The members of Aether Arts move gracefully to music while manipulating hoops, balls, rings and other movement props.
Grapevine Catering of 49 Franklin will offer traditional carnival food: fried dough, sausage sandwiches and other goodies. There will be face-painting, balloons, goodie bags and baked goods available.
Doors open at 5 p.m. General admission tickets are , $8 and 12 and under, $5. Tickets are available on Congress Street in Rumford at All That Jazz and Bartash’s Cards and Gifts. Tickets are also available online at www.49franklin.com. For more information call 369-0129.
