AUBURN — Irving M. Valiente, 61, of East Avenue, Lewiston, went to be with the Lord on April 7, at the Hospice House, after a short Illness.

He was born Oct. 31, 1949, in New York City, the son of Jose and Monsita Luciano-Valiente. Irv was educated at the College of Staten Island with a bachelor’s degree in history and a minor in Spanish. He also proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War.

Irv worked for 10 years as a Spanish teacher at Lewiston High School, where he was referred to as “Senior~ V” by the students. He also taught in New York and was also the assistant coach for basketball, taking the team to two city championships. He accumulated more than 34 years of educating students.

He was a member of the American Legion, Army Cadets and Law Enforcement Cadets at Lewiston High School and Pelletier’s Karate Academy. While in New York City, he was a black belt in Chinese Go Ju and Isshinryu. Irv was also a member of the First Assembly of God in Lewiston. Irv was an avid history lover.

 He is survived by his beloved wife of 29 years, Nancy Valiente of Lewiston; sons, Joseph Valiente and his girlfriend, Katie, of West Paris and Sean Valiente and girlfriend, Jessica, of Waltham; and grandchildren, Dominic Valiente and Angelina Valiente.

Irv was predeceased by his parents.
