MECHANIC FALLS — Adam Lucien Nile, 19, of Poland, died in an automobile accident in Mechanic Falls on April 8.
He was born in Farmington, Feb. 8, 1992, the son of Jamie E. Nile and Catherine L. Pingree. He attended Poland Regional High School but, as an independent thinker, refused to be led by the blind and chose, rather, to earn his GED at Mechanic Falls Adult Education.
Adam began his schooling in Telluride, Colo., surrounded by teachers and community members who loved, nurtured and affirmed him. He earned a ski scholarship through the assistance of his Rainbow Preschool teachers and sped down the slopes with the members of the Comet Ski Program. He attended first grade at Kingfield Elementary and skied with the Bubblecuffers of Sugarloaf Mountain. He ceased skiing when he discovered snowboarding, which he enjoyed until he passed.
He was a natural baseball player who excelled during his little league years. No one could touch him. He highly respected and appreciated Coach Ray Douglas of Poland, who made the sincere effort to appreciate and foster Adam’s natural gift.
As an avid fisherman at the age of four, Adam joyously reeled in 16-plus inch trout from the brooks of Colorado. Needless to say, he was less than impressed with brook fishing in Maine. He continued fishing, however, sometimes with his bare hands along the Sandy River Valley.
Each summer he looked forward to jumping from the cliffs of Smalls Falls and camping and chilling with his friends in Bar Harbor.
Friends and family describe Adam as a ray of sunshine, uplifting, happy, funny, loyal and giving. He cared deeply for his friends, family and pets, never failing to let them know how much he loved them. He has, through his brief lifetime, inspired his father to be the best he can be, striving to live each day with honor and strength. He was a leader and a trendsetter. He knew who he was and what he stood for. His parents feel blessed to have been touched by his spirit. His friends will fondly (or not) remember his singing!
Adam is survived by his parents; stepfather, Timothy Towle of Poland; grandmother, Nancy Davis of Farmington; grandfather, Clyde Pingree of South Paris; aunt, Deborah Nile of Connecticut; aunt, Jill and uncle, John Chinnery of St. Thomas, V.I.; aunt, Suzanne Pease, uncle, Dan Pease and cousin, Ryley Pease of Wilton; uncle, Clyde Pingree II and cousin, Jacob Boivin of Wilton; uncle, Michael D. Pingree and aunt, Irena Pingree of Saco; aunt, Susan Gray and cousin, Razel Gavin of Portland; cousin, Jacqui Boivin Clary of Farmington and cousins, Army PFC Hazen Pingree and Marine LCPL Clyde L.
