RUMFORD — Singers, dancers, musicians, baton twirlers, comedians, ventriloquists and other entertainers are invited to compete next month in the Rumford’s Got Talent show.

Hosted by the Rumford Performing Arts Committee in Rumford Falls Auditorium on Friday, May 13, the show will parody the television show “America’s Got Talent.”

“We hope the prize money will encourage our local talent to come out and compete,” Jim Rinaldo, committee chairman, said recently.

“We get phone calls from people interested in performing at the auditorium, but without a professional body of work and reviews, it’s hard for us to know if it’s a show we can sell.”

He said that hosting the show will enable the committee “to get to know our local entertainers and see how the audience responds to them.”

“Maybe we’ll find the next big star right in our own backyard. I would love that,” Rinaldo said.

The deadline for contestants to sign up is Wednesday, April 20. Applications can be picked up at the Rumford Town Hall.

Rinaldo urged people to get applications as soon as possible, because space is limited in the show. There is no fee to enter.

Judges will appraise each contestant, and the top three talents will win cash prizes, including a $250 first prize.

For more information, contact Rinaldo at 364-2983 or visit the Rumford Performing Arts Committee Facebook page.
