DEAR SUN SPOTS: Books N Things is an independently owned and operated full-service bookstore in Norway. We make every effort to carry books by local authors and of local interest.

We have “From the Volcano to the Gorge” (March 31 letter) in stock, and one of the authors actually came in to the store today to sign them!

We will always do our best to track down whatever book a customer is looking for and have many customers from the Lewiston-Auburn area.

Our hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays. We’d also be happy to ship any book for over-the-phone or email purchases. You may also search our website; however, the website does not contain the local authors.

Please give us a call the next time you’re looking for a particular title! — Erica Jed, Books N Things, 430 Main St., Norway, ME 04268, 739-6200, bntnorway@yahoo.com, www.bntnorway.com

ANSWER: Thank you for bringing Books N Things to Sun Spots’ attention. She will refer readers to you in the future.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am looking for a copy of the book “Smoke from a Thousand Campfires” by Paul T. Doherty. — Bob, 603-466-5241, bob_laurie@ne.rr.com.

ANSWER: According to an online search, this book is out of print and used copies are going for a pretty penny, even at the ubiquitous Amazon.com. Perhaps someone locally has a copy they’d be willing to sell at a reasonable price.

Or perhaps a local bookstore (see preceding letter) can help you out.

Other readers might be interested in this book. The following appears online at www.nh.gov (Sun Spots corrected the spelling of New Hampshire!):

“Doherty served as chief conservation officer for New Hampshire’s Fish and Game Department, the first chief of the Bureau of Off-Highway Vehicles and director of the New Hampshire Parks and Recreation Division. In this book he recounts his life involved with the outdoors. Throughout his career, he met many interesting and colorful characters. He has crossed trails with many famous men, such as President Eisenhower, William O. Douglas and Sherman Adams. Regarded as one of the state’s leading outdoorsmen and an authority on search and rescue, his Northwoodsman column was a regular feature in north county papers.”

DEAR SUN SPOTS: On March 11, a reader wrote looking for an eagle cam. She and other readers might want to visit http://tinyurl.com/cyyl3w.

It is a 24/7 live web cam of a mother and father eagle and their three eaglets, 80 feet up in a tree in Decorah, Iowa.

They’re keeping them fed, warmer and protected. The father comes periodically with food: rabbits, crow, fish and muskrat.

The webcam is part of the Raptor Resource Project. — M.D., Oxford

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Lots to Gardens would like the community to know that there are garden plots available for those who don’t have space to garden.

People may also stop by the Lewiston Winter Farmers Market at the St. Mary’s Nutrition Center (208 Bates St.) between 5 and 6 p.m. on April 14 to sign up or get more information. That night we are also offering a workshop on “Making a Garden Plan” from 6 to 7:30 p.m. It’s open to any gardener or aspiring gardener for a suggested donation of $15.

Please contact us if you would like to register for this workshop or would like to be contacted about other gardening workshops. Spring is coming! — Bridgette Bartlett, education and outreach coordinator, Lots to Gardens, 513-3844, lotstogardens@gmail.com

DEAR SUN SPOTS: My team, Walking with Grace, has been walking for more than 10 years to help find a cure for multiple sclerosis. Some days a person with MS does not walk with much grace, that is why we are working hard to help find a cure.

We are doing a fundraiser at the Firehouse Diner on Route 196, 210 Lisbon St., in Lisbon on April 16 from 8 to 10 a.m. breakfast and 5 to 7 p.m. for dinner. Ten percent of sales and all tips will be donated to finding a cure for MS.

Diners will be served by members of the Walking with Grace team. Bring a friend, tell a friend. The more people the more fun and, of course, the more donations. Team Walking with Grace is also accepting donations on the MS Walk website for the Greater New England MS Society Androscoggin area walk on April 30 (http://tinyurl.com/6fpabuh). Thank you. — Vickie Gould and Grace Banks, team captains, solidroots@securespeed.us
