PARIS — The Riverside Trail between Oxford Hills Middle School and Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School got a spring cleaning Thursday afternoon.

Employees from New Balance shoe company and students from the high school worked for several hours on the warm, sunny afternoon to rake the wet leaves from the trail and pick up litter along the hillside that partly borders the 1.5-mile path.

Heather Westleigh of Healthy Oxford Hills, who helped clean the trail Thursday, said a “substantial” New Balance Foundation grant received several years ago paid for a number of things such as grading the trail, fencing, building a boardwalk over a wetland area and other items.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at 9 a.m. May 18 on the middle school end of the trail that will mark the official opening. The trail is part of the old Viking Trail and has been under development for the last five years.
