ALFRED — A New Hampshire man convicted of murder in the death of his former fiance from Maine is seeking a new trial.
Defense lawyer Dan Lilley told a judge Thursday that a witness has come forward with evidence that could point toward an alternative suspect — the victim’s landlord.
A jury found Twardus guilty of strangling Kelly Gorham, a 30-year-old nursing student from Alfred, in August 2007. Her body was found on his father’s property in Stewartstown, N.H.
Lilley says the witness will testify that Gorham’s landlord, John Durfee, knew of Gorham’s whereabouts before news broke that her body had been discovered.
After the trial, Durfee was charged with possession of PCP and also led police on a high-speed chase after his wife was found unconscious along a road in Eliot.
