LIVERMORE FALLS — Regional School Unit 36 directors voted unanimously Thursday to ratify a one-year contract with the RSU 36 Education Association, Superintendent Sue Pratt said Friday.

This agreement was designed to better align the Jay teachers’ contract and the RSU 36 teachers’ contract, she said.

Jay and RSU 36 school systems are consolidating July 1.

“This negotiated settlement involves some changes in insurance and wages with an overall impact of 2 percent for salary and insurance combined,” Pratt said. “The contract also brings in some language changes for the dental coverage for the teachers.”

The ratified contract better allows for a combining of groups for a new contract for RSU 73 teachers in year two of the newly formed regional school unit, she said.

The RSU 36 teachers’ group is also working with the Jay group to make decisions on extra-curricular salaries with a combined sports program next year. These changes will be attached as a side letter to the existing contract once full agreement is worked out, Pratt said.

“The Negotiations Committee for the RSU 36 association is pleased that the association general membership meeting and the school board have both ratified a one-year contract for the teachers in RSU 36,” association President Sally Speich said Friday. “We feel that there have been some significant steps taken to start to align our contract with the Jay (Education) Association contract and that there is a commitment on the part of the administration to complete that process when the Jay contract and the RSU 36 contract comes up to be negotiated into a new District 73 wide contract next year.”
