LIVERMORE — Selectpersons voted unanimously Thursday to fire Highway Foreman Donald St. Laurent of Canton, effective immediately, Administrative Assistant Kurt Schaub said Friday.

St. Laurent worked for the town for more than 13 years and was appointed highway foreman in July 2009.

Schaub declined further comment on the board’s action. Attempts to reach St. Laurent on Friday were unsuccessful.

The Board of Selectpersons sanctioned St. Laurent in 2010 after he pleaded guilty to a drunken driving charge in February 2010. St. Laurent was not on duty at the time of his October 2009 arrest by Maine State Police.

Due to the guilty conviction, St. Laurent lost his Class C driver’s license for 60 days and his commercial driver’s license for one year, Schaub said in 2010. The board issued a list of sanctions against St. Laurent at that time.

They restricted work to two days a week while he had no regular driver’s license and the work was to be non-driving work, which included acting as a laborer, until his Class C driver’s license was returned.

The board also cut his pay by a $1.50 an hour while he had no commercial driver’s license.

Selectpersons will discuss how they plan to fill the foreman position at a meeting at 6 p.m. Monday, April 25, Schaub said.
