Apple grafting

PARIS — An apple grafting workshop to be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 19, at the Oxford County Extension, 9 Olsen Road, South Paris.

This class will cover how to select apple varieties, how and when to collect grafting wood, getting rootstocks, and how to graft and grow young apple trees.

The area’s senior apple grafter, John Waite, assisted by Beverly Hendricks, owner of DeerWood Farm and Gardens in Waterford, will be presenting a workshop on how to propagate apples using two different varieties of grafting techniques. The Stub and Cleft grafts will be demonstrated and taught. Please bring a sharp knife and pruners.

WEST PARIS — Franklin Grange #124 will hold a community service award night open house program at 7 p.m. on Monday, April 18.

Fish and Game

NORWAY — The Norway-Paris Fish And Game Association will meet Wednesday, April 20 at the Norway municipal building for the annual April Auction. Many outdoor items, homemade goodies and always some surprises will be on the block. All are welcome. The potluck supper is at 6:30p.m. with the auction and meeting to follow.

The proceeds will go into the general fund to help with several projects at the range, new clubhouse and sending local children to the Bryant Pond University of Maine and 4-H Camp and Learning Center. For more information about the club, visit www.npfg.org.
