AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) — A liberal public policy research group says Asians and Latinos are the fastest growing ethnic groups in the U. S. population, and Maine’s population reflects that trend.

Citing U.S. Census figures, the Maine Center for Economic Policy says the state’s Asian population doubled in the 1990s and increased yet again by 49 percent in the past decade.

The group on Thursday plans to release a report on Asians’ contributions to the Maine economy. In 2009, the group released a similar report on Latinos’ part in Maine’s economy.
