FARMINGTON — Police are firing up the grills and making a list of pseudo-arrest warrants for Friday in their Relay for Life team efforts to raise money for the American Cancer Society.
The Farmington Police Department team plans to hold a public barbecue on Friday, April 22, at Hippach Field. Again this year, a portable jail will be on site starting at 10 a.m.
The jail was a favorite and the team earned a majority of its funds from the mock jail last year, Police Chief Jack Peck said Tuesday.
“People can have a friend or relative arrested by a Farmington police officer who transports them to the portable jail. The bail money they raise goes to the American Cancer Society event,” he said.
People can call the Farmington Department at 778-6311 until 4 p.m. Thursday to have others arrested, he said.
A barbecue meal including a hot dog, hamburger, chips, soda and homemade dessert all for $7 will be served by department officers from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Hippach Field. The local radio station WKTJ will broadcast from the event.
The team chose to relocate to the Hippach Field this year to make the event more visible. The officers plan to hold two barbecues and mock-jail fundraisers prior to the June Relay for Life.
They also have a dunk tank planned during the event where people can dunk their favorite police chief, he said.
The team changed their name from Team Blue Heat to Caton’s Crew in memory of the late police Chief Richard Caton, he said.
