AUBURN — Lillian A. Merritt, 70, of 74 Pleasant St., Auburn, died on April 15, after a long battle with congestive heart failure.

Born in Lewiston on Feb. 7, 1941, she was the daughter of Emile and Irene Morin of Lewiston. She was educated in Auburn schools, graduating from Edward Little High School.

For most of her adult life, she was a loving housewife and mother to her six children. Later she worked in the shoe industry and then retired in the early 1990s. She enjoyed crafts, painting, cooking and giving homemade gifts. She had an immense love for her family and she will be greatly missed.

Survivors include sons, Roland Berube and wife, Debra, Gerard Berube of Auburn and William Berube of Portland; daughters, Anna Theriault and husband, Peter and Rachel Verrill and husband, Marty, both of Auburn; grandchildren, Christina Willis and husband, Ralph of Mechanic Falls, Rebecca Freehill of Florida, Melissa Stevens, Adam Berube, Steven Berube and Brian Verrill, all of Auburn and Samantha Hall of Sabattus. She also enjoyed being a great-grandmother to Ralphie, Autumn, James, Tyler, Angelina, Keenan and Isabella.

She was predeceased by her son, James Berube; her parents, Emile and Irene Morin; her first husband, Bertrand Berube; and second husband, Walter Merritt.

The family would like to extend a special thank-you to the professionals at the Androscoggin Home Health and Hospice. With their help, we were able to keep our mom home through to the end, as she had wished, and for that we will be eternally grateful.
