MINOT — Selectmen on Tuesday accepted Christopher Woodford’s resignation as one of the town’s representatives to the RSU 16 Board of Directors.
Woodford’s term was scheduled to expire June 30, 2012.
The resignation was accepted with regret, Selectman Eda Tripp said, noting that Woodford had served the town well during his time on the school board.
According to Town Administrator Arlan Saunders, Woodford apparently submitted his resignation to the RSU 16 board in March.
Saunders said he had become aware of the resignation when approached by Scott Tiner, who was elected to the seat on the board currently held by Annette Hemond at March town meeting, with a request that the Board of Selectmen name him to fill Woodford’s seat until someone can be elected to fill it.
Selectmen said that while they appreciated Tiner’s offer to fill in until his term officially begins on July 1, they had no authority to name a temporary replacement.
Selectmen considered calling for a special election to be held in conjunction with the expected referendum vote on the school budget, but, upon learning the referendum vote is tentatively set for May 17, figured that didn’t allow sufficient time. They did not set a date for a special election.
Selectmen also moved to reconstitute the town Conservation Commission. After hearing from current commission members Donald Piper and Reggie Pratt that they would like to continue serving on the commission, selectmen agreed to name them as well as Lisa Cesare, Bill Hiss and Carey Woods to the revived commission.
Selectman Steve French was named to serve as the board’s representative to the commission.
Selectmen asked Woods to coordinate securing quotes for applying pesticides and herbicides to all five of the town’s athletic fields and provide them by the next selectmen’s meeting.
In other business, selectmen awarded the bid to provide the town’s supply of culverts for summer work to Ferguson Waterworks at a price of $5,760.96. Ferguson’s bid was the lowest of four received.
Selectmen also signed the town’s hazard mitigation plan, a move that permits Saunders to continue his quest for a grant to help with the culvert work needed at the Shaw Hill Road’s Indian Brook crossing.
Saunders also told the board he would be calling a meeting of the Cemetery Committee to consider a plan to pin an additional 40 to 50 lots in West Minot’s Riverside Cemetery.
