LEWISTON — The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing at Central Maine Medical Center is offering a free motivational workshop for cancer patients, survivors and caregivers. “From Stuck to Moving Forward” will take place from 4:30-6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 26, CMMC, 12 High St., conference room A.

Certified Life Coach Pat Grosser will encourage participants to lay the groundwork for a brand new future.

Alternate energy

LEWISTON — Global Day of Conversation on Alternate Energy will take place at noon on Tuesday, April 26, in Callahan Hall at the Lewiston Public Library, 200 Lisbon St. The panel discussion will be hosted by Lewiston Mayor Laurent F. Gilbert Sr., featuring Adam Lee, chairman of Efficiency Maine; Ian Houseal, City of Portland’s sustainability coordinator; Bruce Damon, chairman of Lewiston’s Energy Committee; and Jim Wellehan, local business owner and environmental advocate. Genealogy program

AUBURN — Androscoggin Historical Society will present “Genealogy for Beginners” at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 26, in the society’s headquarters, on the third floor of the County Courthouse, Court and Turner streets. A three-member panel will discuss setting goals, tracing a family tree, using Internet and local resources, and choosing among computer programs. The public is invited. An elevator is available.

Dog obedience

LEWISTON — Great Falls Dog Obedience Club will be starting another six-week dog obedience class starting Wednesday, April 27 . Dogs must be at least 3 1/2 months old and vaccinated. Spaghetti dinner

TURNER — A spaghetti dinner will be held in support of the Leavitt baseball program from 4:30 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 28, at Leavitt High School. Tickets are $5 in advance and $7 at the door. There will also be a dessert auction. Tickets may be purchased from Leavitt baseball players.

Turkey dinner

LISBON — A turkey dinner will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Friday, April 29, at Odd Fellows Hall, 27 Village St. The cost is $7, children 12 and under $3.50, preschool free. The meal is sponsored by Nina Rebekah Lodge #86 and Sabattus River Lodge #21.

Drama students

MONMOUTH — “The Scheme of the Driftless Shifter,” a mixed-up melodrama by Carolyn Lane, will be presented by Monmouth Middle School drama students at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday night, April 29 and 30, at Cumston Hall, Route 132. 

“Scheme” is a play within a play with the hero, heroine and villain sharing the stage with the director, stage manager and the theater’s cleaning lady. Kathleen L. Nation directs a talented cast which includes Caleigh Copeland, Rhiannon Dumond, Kaylee St, Pierre, Morgan Rush, David Marshall, Jordyn Mann, Emily Barnett, Emily Lombardo, Kimberlee Lewis, Ashley DeBlois, Nicole Barker, Becki Bryant, Maddie Stevens, Sam Blundon, Liliana Stewart and Hannah Gray. Donations will be collected at the door to ensure the future of Monmouth Middle School drama program.

Excelsior scholarship

POLAND — A scholarship of $200 for the year 2011 will be awarded to the person judged to be most worthy by the scholarship committee of Excelsior Grange #5. Completed applications must be received by April 30, and the winner will be notified by May 31. The scholarship will be available after the successful completion of the first semester of higher education, either trade school, community college or four-year college.

Church performance

LISBON — Cornerstone will be performing at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church  at 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 30. Cornerstone is an inter-denominational contemporary Christian music band that performs engaging uplifting music.

The band has been together for more than 10 years and performs across Maine. “The band will be introducing a more acoustic sound at the St. Matthew’s event that blends multi-voice harmonies with interesting instrumental arrangements,” said Peter Poulin, the band’s director. This is a free concert and everyone is invited.
