GORHAM — A non-profit ecological research group says it’s installed a new video webcam to monitor the nest of a pair of bald eagles in Maine’s mid-coastal region.

The BioDiversity Research Institute says the webcam is one of two cameras NextEra Energy Resources sponsors that captures the breeding activity of eagles in real time. NextEra is a major wind and solar energy provider.

Visitors to BRI’s website, www.briloon.org, can watch the daily activities of this eagle pair roosting, hatching eggs and raising their young.

Breeding bald eagles lay eggs once each year, usually in early spring. Their nests can reach up to 10 feet across and weigh up to a half ton.
