LEWISTON — John W. Robertson, 69, of Auburn, died Friday evening, April 15, at Central Maine Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family.

John was born in Lewiston on Jan. 30, 1942, the son of Ian and Anita (Ayotte) Robertson. He lived in the Lewiston-Auburn area his entire life, graduating from Lewiston High School in 1960. He served his country in the U.S. Navy and Navy Reserve. On June 23, 1962, he married the love of his life, Darlene Adams, in Gardiner, Me. Together they worked and raised their young family in Auburn.

He worked in the shoe manufacturing industry in both Maine and Mass., before going to work at the New Page Paper Mill in Rumford as a machine tender for 20 years, retiring in 2006. In his younger years he enjoyed golfing. He then developed an interest in building model airplanes and eventually his own canoe.

In the 1970s he was a member of the Auburn School Committee and Education Council. Because of his skills as a machinist, he had the opportunity to travel to China to work for a period of time. He truly enjoyed camping, especially because it allowed him to spend precious time with his family.

John is survived by his wife of over 48 years, Darlene Robertson of Auburn; his daughter, Robin Robertson of Auburn; his son, John C. Robertson of Auburn; two grandchildren, Kiarra Bruce of Auburn and Alexandrah Gagne-Robertson of Lewiston; his sister, Carolyn Robertson of Lewiston; and several cousins.

John was predeceased by his parents.
