AUBURN — Evan Carrier, Curtis Robinson and Sam Cloutier all registered hat tricks Thursday as Lewiston hustled to a 16-4 victory over Twin Cities rival Edward Little in boy’s varsity lacrosse action.

Brandon Tiner also contributed for the Blue Devils with two goals, while single tallies by Chris Rancourt, Troy Hebert, Brandon Landry, Tanner Hubbard and Caleb Leino completed the scoring.

The Red Eddies received two goals from Cody Meserve, while Drew Lepardo and Eric Chan also tallied.

Baseball

Oxford Hills 8, Morse 5

BATH — Brandon Campbell scattered six hits and drew adequate run support as Oxford Hills rolled to an 8-5 victory over Morse in a KVAC baseball tilt.

The Vikings (1-0) erupted for five runs in the third inning, sparked by a timely doubles from Dylan Cox.

Campbell and Cox led the Vikings’ nine-hit attack with two hits apiece.

The Shipbuilders (0-1) were led by Wade Hunt, who belted out an RBI triple in the fourth.

Monmouth 11, Jay 2

LIVERMORE FALLS — Blake Burnham hurled six and a half innings of one-hit ball to lead Monmouth to a 11-2 victory over Jay in an early-season MVC baseball matchup.

The Mustangs (1-0) jumped out to a 4-0 advantage in the first inning, while Jay pulled to witjhin two runs in the second. Brandon Goff led Monmouth with three hits and two RBIs, while Josh Fournier and catcher Billy Cummings each belted two hits with one RBI.

The Tigers (0-1) saw starter Jake Bessey take the loss after allowing five runs in the first four innings.

Softball

Cony 15, Edward Little 9

AUBURN — Emily Soule scattered 10 hits and helped her own cause at the plate as Cony rolled to a 15-9 victory over Edward Little in a KVAC softball tilt.

Alyssa Dennett, Liana Younges and Liz Barker all belted a pair of hits for the Rams (1-0) in a well-balanced attack. Cony trailed by one run after three before taking command with a four-run fourth inning rally. The Red Eddies (0-1) received three hits from Melissa Paione, while Emily Schairo belted a pair of hits.

Bates sweeps USM

GORHAM — Junior Kristen Finn fired a one-hit gem to earn a 6-0 shutout in the second game of a doubleheader to lead Bates to a sweep over the University of Southern Maine in softball action Thursday.

The Bobcats (7-9) rallied from a one-run deficit in the top of the seventh and grabbed the win in an extra inning. Trailing 4-3 after a solo home run by Sarah Deroche in the bottom of the sixth inning. Leah Maciejewski drove in Finn from first base who was pinch running for Monica Berube. Berube started the rally with a two-out blooper of an infield single.

After holding the Huskies (3-28) scoreless in the bottom of the inning, Bates plated the winning run in the top of the eighth.

In the nightcap, Finn pitched an outstanding game for the Bobcats, striking out five batters without yielding a single walk. Finn had a perfect game through two outs of the fifth inning and had retired 14 straight batters before allowing a single. The Bobcats took a 3-0 lead in the second inning on four hits including an RBI double from Maciejewski.
