RUMFORD – Robert N. “Dub” Belanger, 86, of Middle Avenue, Mexico, died Wednesday, April 20, at the Rumford Hospital, Rumford.

He was born in Rumford on May 27, 1924, a son of Omer and Roseann (LeVasseur) Belanger. He graduated from Stephens High School in Rumford, Class of 1942. He served in the U.S. Army as a Tech 4 during WWII, from 1943 to 1946.

He had worked for Mead Paper Company in Rumford in the lab, until his retirement in 1986.

Dub was a member and past commander of the Robert Shand Post No. 1641, VFW and Napoleon Ouellette Post No. 24, American Legion, where he had worked as a spare bartender. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing.

He was married in Rumford on Nov. 15, 1948 to the former Elizabeth Moskus, who survives, of Mexico. Other survivors include a son, Randy Belanger of North New Portland; a brother, Lionel Belanger of Indiana; a sister, Lucille O’Leary of Florida; 2 grandchildren, Brandon, and Corey and his wife, Nicole; great-grandchildren, Adam and Kate; and several nieces and nephews.
