LEWISTON — A local man has been indicted on charges that he used a crowbar to break into an ATM and then stole a bicycle in order to run from police.

Derek Paul Kendrick, 26, of 54 Sabattus St., was indicted by the Androscoggin County grand jury on charges of aggravated criminal mischief, carrying a concealed weapon, refusing to submit to arrest, theft, attempted theft and violating conditions of release.

On Feb. 24, according to court documents, Kendrick used a crowbar to batter an ATM machine at a Community Credit Union in Lewiston. Damage to the machine was later estimated at more than $2,000.

When confronted by police, Kendrick fled, at one point stealing a woman’s bicycle, according to the indictment. He was eventually caught on Pine Street and arrested.

Kendrick has since been released from jail and will be summoned to appear in court on the charges against him.
