AUBURN — Work repairing the road base of the Maine Turnpike as it crosses over Washington Street will detour traffic overnight Tuesday and Wednesday.
Crews will be filling potholes and repairing the bridge deck between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. nightly.
The work will close the southbound lanes between Lewiston and Auburn for at least three hours on Tuesday. Work will close the northbound lanes between Auburn and Lewiston on Wednesday.
Detours will send turnpike traffic through town for the duration of the work. Tuesday’s detour will take traffic off the turnpike at Plourde Parkway, send it up Lincoln Street to Main Street and across into Auburn. Traffic will continue on Court Street to Minot Avenue, on to Washington Street at the rotary and continue south to Exit 75.
Wednesday’s northbound detour will reverse that route.
Turnpike officials said they would post signs where I-95 splits from I-295 warning drivers of the detours.
