RUMFORD —”Understanding Social Security Disability Benefits” will be presented by Lourdes Rubio, claims representative Social Security Administration, from 1:30 to 3 p.m. on Thursday, April 28, at the Rumford Public Library, 56 Rumford Ave.

Lourdes will offer a general overview of disability benefits. She will discuss the application process and guidelines, followed by time for participant questions.

A demonstration of the Video Service Delivery available at the library will follow. This is an excellent opportunity to learn more about the Social Security Administration’s new video conference technology, which improves service to individuals in remote communities. Using this expanded service option, people now have the option to go to the Rumford Public Library to speak with a live employee in the Auburn office.

Benefit supper

RUMFORD — A benefit for Denise “Poulin” Byrd will be held on Friday, April 29, at the American Legion. There will be a spaghetti supper at 5 p.m., Teachers Lounge Mafia at 6 p.m., and music from 7-11 p.m. by Crash Road featuring local principal Matt Gilbert. There will also be a Chinese auction and a 50/50.

Garage, bake sale

MEXICO — A garage sale and bake sale will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 30, to benefit Relay For Life. The sale will take place at 9 Upper Hill Road.

Yard sale

BETHEL — An indoor yard sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 30, at West Parish Congregational Church, UCC, on Church Street. Items will include toys, books and tools. Donations will be accepted from April 27-29.

Proceeds will benefit the Smile Fund for adults who are in need of restorative dental work and lack the financial resources or insurance to undertake treatments.

Car wash, sale

RUMFORD — Chisolm Headstart will hold a car wash and bake sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 30, at the Rumford Information Center. The cost for the car wash is $5.

Bottle drives will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays, May 14 and June 4, at Four Corners Redemption, Waldo Street. For pick up, call Amy at 364-2097.

‘Royal’ supper

DIXFIELD — Celebrate the “Royal Wedding” on Saturday, April 30, at Dixfield Church of the Nazarene with a “royal” spaghetti supper.

Also on the menu will be cole slaw, rolls and butter, chocolate sheet cake and a beverage. Cost is $5 for an adult and $3.50 for a child 12 and under.

The church is located at 171 Weld St.

The proceeds are going to help send two teens to Nazarene Youth Convention held in Kentucky in July.

Isabella meeting

RUMFORD — St. Timothy Circle #504, Daughters of Isabella will have a corporate communion at the 9:30 a.m. mass on Sunday, May 1, at the Parish of the Holy Savior. The anniversary banquet will follow at the church hall. New members are Janet Hooley and Sandra Gomez. Deceased member is Mary Lotitis.

‘Mrs. Smith’

MEXICO — A performance of Margaret Chase Smith with Sally Jones titled “Mrs. Smith goes to Washington” will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 21, at the middle school on Harlow Hill.

Tickets will be available Sunday, May 1. The cost is $9. The benefit performance is produced by RPA in association with Rag Tag Theatre.

MEXICO — The Mexico High School Class of 1959 will meet for lunch at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 3, at Mexico Chicken Coop.
