In a fast game this afternoon, Bliss Business College of Lewiston defeated Leavitt Institute by the score of 8 to 5. Leavitt brought in three runs in the fifth and was in the lead until the eighth when Bliss got four men across the plate. Karkos, who got two baggers and a single in three times at bat, was the star of the game.
50 years ago, 1961
Auburn Schools Supt. Lewis E. Webber said yesterday that maintenance costs on Auburn school buses is an economical 12.6 cents a mile. This figure includes parts, gasoline, oil, tires and the salaries of the garage mechanics.
Auburn’s school department operates a fleet of 12 buses, six of which are 5 years old or older and one is a 1944 model still in good operating condition.
25 years ago, 1986
Soda and ice water replaces scotch and soda or bourbon and water. Audience members are 13 through 20, not 21 and older. The club closes at 10 p.m., instead of 1 a.m.
Siddhartha’s night club in Lewiston undergoes a transformation for its Sunday teen nights.
“They seem to like it,” Siddhartha’s owner Mickey Amlotte said. “It gives them a chance to see a live band and have some fun.”
