DEAR SUN SPOTS: For the second year in a row, I am spearheading a group of TD Bank employees who are collecting donations to send out care packages to our troops stationed overseas.

Last year, with generous donations from your readers and our TD Bank customers, we were able to send out more than 35 care packages to troops stationed in Iraq and Afghanistan. In return we received letters, emails, cards and photographs from the troops who received our packages.

We are asking again for your help to spread the word to everyone in the hopes of making this year an even bigger success. Donations may be dropped off at any TD Bank location in the Lewiston-Auburn area between May 1 and June 1.

The most needed items are hand sanitizer, moist towelettes, hard candy, eye drops, deodorant (nonaerosol), sun screen, bug spray, lotion, DVDs and CDs. If there are any questions, please feel free to contact me at 784-3990. — Meagan Barrett, AVP store manager, meagan.barrett@tdbanknorth.com

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Is there anyone out there who collects canceled stamps and/or matchbook covers? The stamps are international as well as USA. Some are quite old. I have several of each to give to interested collectors.

I also have one souvenir spoon for someone who collects those. I think it’s from Lisbon, Portugal. — Jan, info@warestreetinn.com, 783-8171

DEAR SUN SPOTS: During a Saturday tournament, my son left his sports jacket on a field at Bates College and did not realize it until the following Monday. Imagine his excitement when he was called to the school office later Monday morning to pick up his jacket.

A note attached explains that a wonderful person named Ernie found it during his morning walk. Ernie took the time to bring it to Edward Little and make sure it was returned. We would like to offer our sincerest thanks to Ernie. — The Cotes, Auburn, debscote@yahoo.com
