FARMINGTON — For years, Trinity United Methodist Church has been serving “Fishes and Loaves” (fish chowder, homemade biscuits and desserts) each Wednesday at noon, from January through March, at their church on the Farmington Falls Road. This offering at Trinity has been available to anyone in the community desiring a hot meal during the cold winter months. It has been a great opportunity for people to gather in fellowship and be nourished at the same time. The program first started under the leadership of Clinton Savage; it was named “Fishes and Loaves” in recognition of Jesus feeding the multitudes with seven loaves of bread and a few small fish. Joan Farrington, the current coordinator of the program said that this year’s response was outstanding and very encouraging.

A free-will offering basket for the Franklin Area Ecumenical Ministries heating fund was made available at the back of the fellowship hall and people being served gave generously to this cause out of appreciation for being fed and to help their neighbors keep warm. All of the proceeds from the offering were turned over to heating fund while all expenses for the meals were born by Trinity UMC. This is the second year that Trinity has been able to contribute $1,000 to aid in the program to provide free oil to those in our community. It is only one of several mission projects run by TUMC.
