DIXFIELD — Plans for the annual Dixfield Main Street Outdoor Market begins at a committee meeting set for 6:30 p.m. May 11 at the town office.

Chairwoman Norine Clarke said those who want to help are encouraged to attend the meeting.

The popular annual event takes place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 21, along Main Street and in the lot at the rear of the town office, from the Bangor Savings Bank’s parking lot to the Olde Chapel Antiques building.

At least 50 vendors, crafters, social service agencies, political and fundraising groups, and flea marketers turn out each year, she said.

“People with anything to sell or tell are welcomed,” Clarke said.

The cost for renting a 10- by 15-foot space is $15 for the day. Funds raised by the organizers of the market are used for community events such as the Easter Egg Hunt, Santa’s Helpers, Boys and Girls State and the annual Halloween Walk.

Norine and her husband, Ralph, have been the primary organizers for several years.

“We’re hoping that someone will take over next year,” Norine said. “We’ve been on the committee since the beginning.”

Most years between 1,500 and 2,000 people turnout for the annual event.

Vendors must bring their own tables. A limited number of spaces are available with electricity.

She said about seven people so far have volunteered to help out with the planning and at the day of the event. Many more are needed.
