On May 11, there will be a RSU 16 district budget meeting for the towns of Minot, Poland and Mechanic Falls. This year’s proposed budget contains an increase of $1 million.

In these economic times of low employment, high fuel and food prices, how can anyone afford the extra cost that would be added to the tax bills?

Whatever viewpoint residents have, they should take the time and initiative to go, listen and ask questions. Then they should vote on May 17.

Whether people are for or against the budget, make their voices be heard. Do not let a few decide what will affect many.

A million dollars this year and, most likely, more next year, especially if fuel prices continue to spiral upward.

It is up to the voters. If they do not vote, they have no right to complain.
