PARIS, Maine (AP) — A health care provider accused of stealing more than $4 million from MaineCare has been ordered to serve 42 months in state prison and pay restitution.
Dawn Solomon, who pleaded guilty to overcharging the state’s Medicaid system, was sentenced Thursday under a plea agreement that called for a sentence of 40 to 60 months behind bars.
The Harrison woman ran a company, Living Independence Network Corporation, that provided behavior management and physical and social development services to children with mental disabilities.
The attorney general’s Healthcare Crimes Unit began unraveling her overbilling scheme after a state audit raised red flags in September 2009. Prosecutors say the fraud dated to 2006 with $87,000 in false billings per month before growing to an average of $134,000 per month in 2008.
