LEWISTON — Robert P. Tymoczko, 68, of 495 College St., Lewiston, died Monday, May 9, at Central Maine Medical Center after an eight-month battle with lung cancer.

He was born in Watertown, N.Y., Sept. 2, 1942, the son of Mercerco “Tommy” Tymoczko and Yvonne Stark Tymoczko. Bob received his elementary education in New York, and Connecticut, before his family moved to Maine. He graduated from Bucksport High School in 1959, as a National Merit Scholar. An English major, he graduated with a B.A. from the University of Maine at Orono in 1963.

On Nov. 22, 1986, he married the former Suzanne Murray at St. Joseph’s Church. Bob taught English at Edward Little High School in Auburn for 35 years, retiring in 1998. During his teaching career, he was active in the Auburn Teachers’ Association, serving several years as negotiator and as chairman of the grievance committee. During his retirement, Bob was a member of MEA-R and AREA.

After retiring from teaching, he worked as a copy editor for Turner Publishing Inc. He also wrote a column on Urban Legends for their papers. Bob loved to travel and especially enjoyed planning for trips. He also was an avid reader. Bob will be remembered for his intelligence, quick wit and wonderful sense of humor.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his mother of Bucksport; a son, Nick and his partner, Kathy Lesperance, of Greene; two daughters, Vicki Hilse and partner, Eric McLeod, of Newmarket, N.H., and Leah and husband, David Griffin, of Greene; a brother, Bill and wife, Debbie, of Verona Island; a sister, Sue Ann and husband, John Craig, of Bucksport; four granddaughters; three great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Gloria Murray of Auburn; one niece; and several nephews.

He was predeceased by his father.
