LISBON — A local man is facing a child pornography charge after federal authorities teamed up with state and local police in an investigation involving sexually explicit material of a child under 12.

Christopher Veazie, 21, of 49 Wing St. is being held at the Androscoggin County jail in Auburn on $50,000 cash bail, Lisbon Police Chief David Brooks said. He was arrested May 5, according to jail records.

According to Brooks, the investigation began in late March when Officer Ryan McGee responded to a complaint of child pornography found on a computer left at a Lisbon Falls residence.

A search warrant was obtained from the court for a computer owned by Veazie, and a search of the computer by a Maine Computer Crimes Task Force detective found 2,000 images, along with still photos and a video that was loaded onto the computer. The photos, Brooks said, depicted a small child engaged in sexual acts.

Lisbon Detective Bernard McAllister headed up the local investigation, assisted by state police which resulted in the arrest of Veazie in the Augusta area by state police Detective Scott Gosselin.

Because the investigation is ongoing, police declined to say if more than one child was involved or whether the child is from the Lisbon area.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office has also assigned an investigator to the case.

The investigation led police to New Gloucester but it is not known if it resulted in any further charges in that jurisdiction.

According to Brooks, Veazie has a previous conviction of robbery and assault in Washington state. He returned to Maine last year and has been living at a number of locations, police said.
