LEWISTON — Marie Jeanne Cote, 87, of 5 Arundel Drive, Lisbon, formerly of 35 Steven’s Mills Park Road, Auburn, died Thursday, May 12, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center following a brief illness.

She was born in Lewiston, March 9, 1924, a daughter of the late Joseph and Aldea Godin Gagne she was educated in Lewiston schools.

Mrs. Cote was a member of The Prince of Peace Parish at the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, Ladies of Ste. Anne’s Sodality and the Congregation of the Children of Mary. She was married to Bertrand J. Cote Aug. 31, 1946. They were married 58 years prior to his death June 17, 2005. She was an active member of the Pastime Club.

Marie Jeanne was employed at the Continental Mill and later worked in the cafeteria at St. Mary’s Hospital.

She and her husband enjoyed playing cards together, especially Skat and Rummy. She also very much enjoyed playing Bingo.They spent many enjoyable moments together, and with their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, on camping trips and at family gatherings.

She is survived by her daughter, whom she lived with Diane Lizotte and her fiancee, William Babine, of Lisbon; 3 sons, Richard and his wife, Deborah Cote, of Poland, Bob and his wife, Suzanne Cote of Lewiston and Roland and his wife, Phyllis Cote, of Readfield; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Marie-Rose Croteau of Lewiston.

She was also predeceased by three sons, Ronald, Raymond and Real Cote; as well as her brother, Roger Gagne.
