WEST PARIS – An awareness and fundraising event, The Aurora Shines Cancer Awareness Day, will be held Saturday, May 21.

The event was created by Ardith Dechello in honor of her sister Aurora, who has battled two types of cancer and is now fighting stage 2 brain cancer.

Dechello, owner of Abiding Divine Family Hair Care & Spa in West Paris, will be joined by other businesses who have committed to donating to or participating to the event, including Xanna’s Spa, Positive Choice Photography, The West Paris General Store, Affordable Events LLC, Hill Top Pools And Spa, Hadleys Excavation, J&K Sporting Goods and Young’s Greenhouse. The West Paris Library will be having an educational day.

The event will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and include a cancer awareness presentation, a Chinese auction/raffle, face painting for kids, a balloon release in honor of loved ones lost to cancer and a two-mile memorial walk starting and ending at Pioneer Street. The West Paris General Store will be accepting bottle donations for the cause.
