OXFORD — Selectmen have approved the 2011-12 town meeting warrant, which asks residents to grant several new powers to the Board of Selectmen.

One article would authorize the board to dispose of town-owned personal property valued at less than $5,000 under terms and conditions they deem advisable. A public bid process would still be necessary for items valued at more than $5,000.

Two articles would authorize the board to accept gifts of money and property to the town. Gifts given unconditionally would be expended for public purposes deemed by the board to be in the town’s best interest.

Conditional gifts would be expended for purposes with which the gift was made, in accordance with any conditions specified by the donor.

Another would give selectmen the authority to carry forward to the next year any unspent balances they deem advisable.

The proposed budget approved by selectmen and the Budget Committee is 0.81 percent (about $25,500) higher than last year’s.

The Board of Selectmen unanimously approved the warrant at the May 5 meeting.

The town meeting is set for 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 11, at Oxford Elementary School. The secret ballot election will be held on June 14.

Selectman Roger Jackson is running for re-election against challenger Richard Varney. On the SAD 17 board, member Henry Jackson is running uncontested; Bill Frye is running uncontested for the Water District Board of Trustees.
